anyone out there who can relate with me in suffering from bi polar disorder or any mental illness.
knowing that we are not alone helps me a lot as well as support from family and friends.

It is hard to tell from a picture with someone smiling that there is a cause for alarm in categorizing you or labeling as 'bipolar', because the labelling does not seem fair to how you are in that pic. Does your condition require medication? I studied in books while earning my baccalaureate in abnormal psychology specializing in child development and since little exposure to the actual condition in clients, I find the labelling the biggest setback.

Why can't we be manic one minute and calm the next? The natural flow is never good all the time, what is wrong with clinicians who serve a prognosis of inevitable doom to something that is magnificent when really addressed properly . . .? There are many of us out here that are categorized as irrational, but yikes I won't let it get me worse off than I am, I just embrace the depression as necessary downtime my chaotic off-the-chart temperament needs for me to do.

I am on lithium for my condition. I was more than likely manic the day i took the picture and was smiling.
I go from being happy, to being depressed all depending on the situation at the moment that i am dealing with.
Anything that is something i feel i have no control over, i flip out. i fear confrontation and my self esteem is so low that i rarely speak my opinion.
as long as i have tv, books and internet i rarely go out except for working out, paying bills and or doc appts.

Hi Angela...I am also bi-polar. I am 48 years of age and although I knew there was "something" wrong with me for along time, I went undiagnosed and untreated until I was about 30.

I also developed an anxiety condition when I was in my mid- twenties. Because of my conditions, they have limited me and caused me to make alot of mistakes in my life.

I am here in an attempt to make my life better from this point forward. There is a tremendous amount of stress in my life right now, and I am trying to learn and put into practice meditation and anything else that may help me to relax.

Bi Polar this is something I was told I had so I understand. Through the years I used vitamons, herbs, and right eating to bring it under control. Sometimes I still find that it wants to control me but I let EGO go and let my Being take its place. There is a book called A New Earth Awaking to your life's purpose by Eckhart Tolle which has helped me tremendously. Along with Reiki and allowing my life to flow is amazing! I hope the best and may you have peace in your heart. I am now 55 yrs old.

greetings, i had to come off my lithium. the negative side effects out weigh the positive ones ( which was far and few ). I was all the time sleepy, sick on my stomache, dizzy just so lathargic to where i wasnt taking care of my appearence. I havent worked out on a decent schedule since i started the lithium. who knows what they will out me on next lol im a lab rat ....

Yes, I have recently been diagnosed as bipolar. I am not very knowledgable with respect to the effects of such nor am I well acquainted with the remedies; if there are any... the Dr.s have not gone into much detail with me as of yet, but are observing my depression and how it affects the condition itself. Hi,
I'm now having medication on bipolar and depression. The drugs I used is DEPAKINE and EFFEXOR. Last year the symptoms effected me very much but this year it seems transparent for me. I don't know why. I don't know whether it is drugs or my behavior change. Any way it is like miracle. Does anyone know that this illness can be cured by changing in behaviours or habits of thought or it always has to be influenced by brain chemical.
